v  October 31, 2008 - HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL - Over 150 parish children and their families attended this years Carnival.35 Knights and their families gathered at the Dolan Hall for it's second Family Potluck of the year.  Family of the Month Awards were presernted to James and Nadine Hernandez for August and to Ray and Letycia Gomez for September.  Attendees also enjoyed Karaoke provided by Brother Pulido.

v  October 22, 2008 - FAMILY POTLUCK - Over 35 Knights and their families gathered at the Dolan Hall for it's second Family Potluck of the year.  Family of the Month Awards were presernted to James and Nadine Hernandez for August and to Ray and Letycia Gomez for September.  Attendees also enjoyed Karaoke provided by Brother Pulido.


v  October 19 & 26, 2008 - PUMPKIN PATCH - Council 6028 held it's 2nd Annual Pumpkin Patch on lawn in front of O'Callaghan Center.  Over 250 pumpkins were sold to parishioners over the two weekends.  In conjuntion with the pumpkin patch, 4th Degree Knights from the the Father Felix J. Penna Assembly held a hotdog fundraiser along side the pumpkin patch.


v  October 15, 2008 - 1st DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION - A 1st Degree Exemplifications was held at Dolan Hall.  Sixteen Brother Knights including three from our Council took the first step towards Knighthood.  Council 6028 welcomes Daniel Cordova, Jose Lugo, and Robert Chavez to Shepherd of Ars.


v  October 12, 2008 - RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE - An annual Blood Drive was held at the O'Callighan Center after the morning masses.  This year 62 pints of blood was donated from 78 donors.  This is enough to blood to benefit 186 patients.

v  October 10-12, 2008 - 4th DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION - The Junipero Sierra Province held it's 4th Degree Exemplification at the Irvine Marriot.  The Father Felix J. Penna Assembly welcomed 16 new Sir Knights including 7 members from Shepherd of Ars.



v  October 4, 2008 - FIRST SATURDAY ROSARY FOR OUR TROOPS - Members of Council 6028 met after the 8:00 morning mass to pray the Rosary for peace in the middle east.  The Council was joined at the same time by troops in Iraq who began praying the Rosary on the first Saturday of each month


v  October 1-31, 2008 - DRIVE FOR THE INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED - Council 6028 successfully completed the program to assist People with Mental Retardation for the 2008.  Knights passed out tootsie rolls after all masses during the month of October.  This year the Fall Classic Golf Tournament to be held at Birch Hills Golf Club had to be canceled due to the wild fires.

v  September 20, 2008 - COUNCIL DINNER AND MOVIE NIGHT - Shepherd of Ars held its first movie night and dinner in the O'Callighan Center.  Those in attendance enjoyed a great meal and watched "Bella" a movie which which was produced, directed and starred Brother Knights of Columbus.


v  September 7, 2008 - PANCAKE AND MENUDO BREAKFAST - Council 6028 held a Pancake and Menudo Breakfast at the O'Callaghan Center after the morning masses.  The event was attended by over 150 parishioners.

v  August 9, 2008 - O'CALLAGHAN GOLF TOURNAMENT - Over 40 golfers participated in this year's event which was held at the Whittier Narrows Golf Course in Rosemead.  The event which honors the memory of Msgr. James A. O'Callaghan, raises funds to directly benefit the youth of the parish.  Following the tournament a gathering was held at Domonic and Sandy Niccoli's house.  The dinner was catered by Portofino's Italian Restaurant in La Habra and was attended by over 50 guests.


v  August 3, 2008 - PANCAKE AND MENUDO BREAKFAST - Council 6028 opened its first Pancake and Menudo Breakfast of the Columbian year with overwhelming success.  The event was attended by over 150 parishioners.  Special thanks goes to the Workman Highschool Freshmen Football Team who were on hand to help in setting up, serving, and cleanup.

v  July 30, 2008 - FAMILY POTLUCK - Over 40 Knights and their families participated in the first Family Potluck for the Columbian Year.  In addition, the Council presented a Certificate of Merit to Ray Gomez for his contribution to the Council's Newsletter; Knight of the Month was presented to Dean Avram for the his work on the Rosary for Peace; and Family of the Month was presented to Mike and Elizabeth Wilson for this year's Fireworks Booth.  Congratulations to all Knights.


v  July 27, 2008 - QUARTERLY COMMUNION AND OFFICER INSTALLATION AND LUNCHEON - Brother Knights and their families celebrated communion together at the 10 a.m. mass.  Immediately following the mass, Knights and families gathered at the O'Callaghan Center for a light lunch and to witness the Installation of Officers for the 2008-09 Columian year.  The ceremony was presided over by our worthy District Deputy John Widner and District Warden Paul Coble.


v  July 5, 2008 - ROSARY FOR PEACE - Brother Knights gathered at the O'Callaghan Center to pray 5 decades of the Rosary for an end to the conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan, and for peace in the Middle East.  Those in attendance were treated to a touching slideshow presentation featuring images of the Iraq war as well as God and country.  Our Council was joined in unity by other Councils including Brother Knights from Valley Council 5528 of Hemet, California, the Fair Oaks Council 5056 of Fair Oaks, California and from the Victory Base Complex Roundtable Knights of Columbus in Iraq:


v  July 4, 2008 - HACIENDA HEIGHTS FOURTH OF JULY PARADE - Knights from Council 6028 along with 4th Degree Members from the Father Felix J. Pena Assembly braved the 90 degree temperature and showed their patriotic spirit by participating in the Hacienda Heights 4th of July Parade.


v  June 28, 2008 - July 4, 2008 - FIREWORKS STAND - After a two year hiatus, Council 6028 received approval from City of Industry to operate a Fireworks Stand on the 17000 block of Colima Rd., near the In-N-Out Burgers west of Fullerton Rd.  As in the past, the public was treated to a fireworks extravaganza on July 3rd as well as free hot dogs, chips and soda.  Proceeds will be used to fund the various charitable events for this Columbian year.


v  March 22, 2008 - ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT - Council 6028 held it annual Easter Egg Hunt for children from the parish.  The hunt followed the traditional Blessing of the Animals on the church lawn.  Over 100 children and their families attended this years event and as always were treated to grilled hot dogs, chips and drinks courtesy of the Knights of Columbus.


v  March 12 and 14, 2008 - LENTEN SOUP & SALAD NIGHT AND Friday NIGHT FISH FRY - Council 6028 successfully completed its Wednesday Soup and Salad Night and Friday Night Fish Fry for the Lenten Season.  The dinners were well attended by parishioners and Brother Knights and their families who enjoyed the good food and fellowship.  .  This year, the Council raised over $1,000 for the local food pantry.


v  March 8, 2008 - PAST GRAND KNIGHT'S DINNER - Council 6028 held it's annual Past Grand Knight's Dinner at Dolan Hall to honor Past Grand Knight Paul Valrie Jr.  Over 50 Brother Knights and their Families attended this joyous occasion.  Council Awards, including Man of Year, Family of the Year and Knight of Month were given at the Dinner which was catered by Casa Blanca in Hacienda Heights.  In addition, Paul was treated to a special surprise visit from his son and daughter who flew in from Atlanta for the evening.


v  February 10, 2008 - QUARTERLY CORPORATE COMMUNION - Lead by 4th Degree Members from the Father Felix J. Pena Assembly, 110 Knights and their families processioned into the church together.  Faithful Navigator Roger Meehan and Grand Knight Joe Sofka presented Rev. Msgr. Timothy Nichols with a gift in honor of our Anniversary.


v  February 9, 2008 - COUNCIL 6028 4Oth ANNIVERSARY - Council 6028 held an Anniversary Dinner at Portofino Italian Restaurant to mark 40 years of service to the St. John Vianney Parish Community.  The event was attended by 32 Knights and their families.  Those in attendance were treated  to historical overview of Council 6028 by an original Charter member and current Treasurer Ron Dunbar.  The evening was capped off by Karaoke provided by 1st Degree Member Pete Pulido.


v  January 18, 2008 - COLD WEATHER SHELTER - From January 18 to February 2, 2008, St. John Vianney, once again joined the Coalition of Churches to house and feed the homeless.  On January 18th, over twenty-five Brother Knights served chili dogs, salad, and dessert to over 200 men and women.  In addition, a handful of Knights prepared over 200 sack lunches the night before. 


v  December 22, 2007 - KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS CHRISTMAS PROGRAM - The Knights of Columbus hosted it's annual Christmas Party for underprivileged kids.  165 children and their families joined us for this years event.  As in the past years, the Council provided a warm meal, drinks and dessert for all in attendance. 


v  December 14, 2007 - CLERGY RELIGIOUS APPRECIATION DINNER - Knights from the San Gabriel Valley Chapter hosted its annual Clergy Religious Appreciation Dinner at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish.  This annual event brings together Knights, Clergy and religious from throughout the San Gabriel Valley.


v  November, 17, 2007 - DRIVE FOR THE INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED - Council 6028 successfully completed the program to assist People with Mental Retardation for the 2007 year by hosting a Fall Classic Golf Tournament at Birch Hills Golf Club. A total of 38 Golfers were in atendance which raised in excess of $2,000 for this year.
